# Activating licenses

Licenses can be activated from entitlements or available licenses activated to a selected license server. If the license server has access to the internet, it synchronises automatically. For license servers that are not connected to the internet, the license files must be downloaded and installed manually.

Depending on whether you are activating licenses from entitlements or activating available licenses to selected license servers, with or without internet access, the following guides are available:

# Activating licenses

<main id="bkmrk-after-the-successful"><article>After the successful license server installation and registration, you need to provide the licenses to the license server that it is to serve. Simple license activation is used to activate an entitlement on a license server.

You use the Advantest License Portal to map the licenses to your license server.

</section><section>### Before you begin

You need to have a login to the Advantest License Portal. If you are not able to login, get in contact with your Advantest representative.

</section><section>### **Procedure**

1. Open the Advantest License Portal: [https://license.advantest.com/](https://license.advantest.com/) and login.
2. Select the tab **<span class="uicontrol">License Management</span>.**
3. From the **<span class="uicontrol">License Activation</span>** section, select **<span class="uicontrol">Activation via entitlement (Simple Activation)</span>**. The Simple Activation page is displayed.

4. Select the entitlement ID for which you want to activate licenses.

</section></div><div><section><p class="callout info">Note: If the entitlement ID is not available in the selection list, you can add the organization by selecting: **Entitlement not listed..,** entering the entitlement ID, and clicking **Assign**. The organization of the entered entitlement ID is assigned to your user setup and enables you to work on the licenses of that organization.

 5. Select the license server on which the licenses are to be activated.

</section></div></article></main><p class="callout info">Note: If the required license server is not configured, you can create a new license server by selecting: **<span class="uicontrol">Enter new server</span>**, and specifying the type of license server (**<span class="uicontrol">FNE</span>** or **<span class="uicontrol">FNP</span>**).  
  
**<span class="uicontrol">FNE</span>** - The server registration page opens. For more details, see [Registering the license server](https://lhc.advantest.com/books/flexnet-embedded-licensing/page/registering-the-license-server "A new license server must be registered with the Advantest FNE Licensing Back-office before it can be used to host licenses.").  
  
**<span class="uicontrol">FNP</span>** - Select **<span class="uicontrol">Single</span>** for a central or local license server or **<span class="uicontrol">Triad</span>** for a three-redundancy-license server arrangement and enter the host IDs of the license servers.  
  
Click **<span class="uicontrol">Apply</span>** to close the dialog box.

 7. Click **<span class="uicontrol">Continue</span>.**

The license table is displayed.

 8. Enter the data for the licenses you want to activate. For example, the count value (number of licenses that you want to activate) and any other mandatory license information.

Click **<span class="uicontrol">Fill</span>** to enter the remaining count to the **`<span class="keyword">Activate</span> `**field of the associated license. **<span class="uicontrol">Fill all</span>** enters the remaining count of all licenses in the **`<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);"><span class="keyword">Activate</span> </span>`**field.

Click a column header to order the entries. Customize the page from the drop-down menu.</span></p>

 10. Review the license summary.

If you want to change any values, click **<span class="uicontrol">Back</span>** to reopen the License page.

You can only correct mistakes after activation if you are working with a FlexNet Embedded license server. Changes cannot be made on FlexNet Publisher license servers.</p>

</div></div> 11. When you are sure that the information has been entered correctly, click **<span class="uicontrol">Generate Licenses</span>**.

The licenses are generated and the **<span class="uicontrol">License Activation Result</span>** page is displayed, from which the following options are available:

- **<span class="uicontrol">Download license</span>** - Download the license file for the newly generated licenses. If you still need to activate further licenses on the same license server, download the license file after completing all activations.
- **<span class="uicontrol">Proceed with Simple Activation</span>** Enables you to activate the next license from the entitlement ID.
- **<span class="uicontrol">Navigate to the Overview Page</span>** - Opens the License Management start page.

<div class="p">For FlexNet Embedded license servers that are connected to the internet, you perform a `<kbd class="userinput">sync-fne-server</kbd> ` action on the license server for immediate usage or wait for the next automatic server synchronization.</div><div class="p"><div class="note">

# Activating licenses advanced

<main id="bkmrk-after-the-successful"><article><div><section class="section">After the successful license server installation and registration, you need to provide the licenses to the license server that it is to serve. Advanced license activation is used to activate available licenses to a specific license server.

### About this task

You use the Advantest License Portal to map the licenses to your license server.

You need to have a login to the Advantest License Portal. If you are not able to login, get in contact with your Advantest representative.

</section><section>### **Procedure**

1. Open the Advantest License Portal: [https://license.advantest.com/](https://license.advantest.com/) and login.
2. Select the tab **<span class="uicontrol">License Management</span>.**
3. From the **<span class="uicontrol">License Activation</span>** section, select **Advanced Activation**.

# Adding entitlement IDs and organization to a user account

If you can login to the Advantest License Portal but cannot find a specific entitlement in the portal, it is possible that the subsidiary organization ID is not assigned to your account. The required subsidiary organization is added using the missing entitlement ID.

Make sure that you have the following:

- Access to the Advantest License Portal.
- An entitlement ID that is not listed in the Advantest License Portal (the organization is not assigned to you).

</section><section>### **Procedure**

1. From the License Portal, select the **<span class="uicontrol">License Management</span>** tab.
2. Click **<span class="uicontrol">Activation via entitlement (Simple Activation)</span>**. The **<span class="wintitle">Simple Activation</span>** page is displayed.
3. Click **<span class="uicontrol">Entitlement not listed…</span>**The **<span class="wintitle">Assign new organization dialog</span>** is displayed.

4. Enter the entitlement ID that you want to add and click **<span class="uicontrol">Assign</span>**.

The entitlement is added to the pool of entitlements, and your user is associated with the organization to which the entitlement belongs.
